San Franciscans are not usually thought to be submissive, but of course we are. Why else would we allow our physical environment to be taken over, desecrated and destroyed? Why else would we be passive as abusers, misusers, vandals ignore community standards and codes all the while public officials stand idle? Why else would we by proxies continue to give salaries, benefits and pensions to corrupted, worthless politicians and public bureaucrats who endorse urban blight and disorder by their failure to use proactive measures and code enforcement. Most of us may complain, point the finger, but few are well informed of community standards. What if our parks, schools, neighborhoods were beautifully cared for and pleasant to be in—it is not a question of money, it is a question of a healthy will to make them so. What if the people we choose to represent-speak and work for us, what if their will was free, embracing, warm and needing to feel healthy and alive, as ours, so they quite naturally supported ways for us to grow in goodness, beauty and truth. All it takes is our collective healthy will. All it takes is for us to say NO to our normative, average, mediocre, standardized approach to life and learning. It doesn’t register to many just how fortunate we are living in the second densest city outside NYC, and yet preserved so many good things in natural open spaces. Ocean and bay, and distant coastline—all protected. Our neighborhoods are also nestled between parks and protected open space. Imagine if all our parks, schools, and neighborhoods, were beautifully cared for and pleasant to be in—it is not a question of money, it is a question of a healthy will to make them so. What if the people we choose to represent-speak and work for us, what if their temperament matched ours, so we all felt free, embracing, warm and needed to feel healthy and alive, so we quite naturally supported ways for us all to grow in goodness, beauty and truth. All it takes is our collective healthy will. All it takes is for us to say no to the normative, average, mediocre, standardized approach to life and learning. Jackie Phillips DiFilippo : That’s not going to be easy for anyone, since public officials are dammed if they do and dammed if they don’t. Given my perspective, most officials are like most people, they lack the understanding, character and will. Politicians and bureaucrats make a lot of promises, spent lots of time, money + other peoples’ money, and lots of time trying to stay in favor, get re-elected or interested in higher positions in or out of government. Collectively most of us are to one degree or another—complacent, indifferent, self absorbed, utterly ignorant, superstitious, etc. We looking from someone to safe us from themselves and problems in the world that we helped create. A worthy ‘leader’ would point out that the world is what it is because of our inability to respond appropriately to our personal and collective problems. They would comprehensively understand that we collectively need to transform ourselves and promote Culture, which is more than art, music, literature, etc. “Cultural” is the cultivation of goodness in personal and collective matters. Nothing is perfect, but we have all that it takes to collectively grow in goodness, which doesn’t take hoping, praying, struggling, violence, or war. We have good example of success if we use our eyes to ‘see’. Imagine if all our parks, schools, neighborhoods and home planet, were beautifully cared for and pleasant to be in. It is not a question of money—it is a question of having a healthy will to make them so. Imagine if the people we choose to represent, speak and work for us—what if their impulses were freed so they were embracing, warm and needing to feel healthy and alive so they quite naturally supported ways for us to grow in goodness, beauty and truth. All it takes is our collective healthy will. All it takes is for us to say no to a normative, average, mediocre, standardized approach to life and learning. _rick What if our parks, schools, neighborhoods and planet, were beautifully cared for and pleasant to be in — it is not a question of money — it is a question of a healthy will to make them so. Slow Page Street continues to cause congestion, safety incidents, ugly disputes between neighbors, and real hardship for the vast majority of neighbors who live, work and commute in the Page St. corridor. The most recent SFMTA survey showed there is no longer strong support for Slow Page Street, so it should be reopened immediately. Once reopened, Page Street can and will continue to function as a safe transportation route for pedestrians and bikes. Please respect the will of the vast majority of neighbors and open Page Street now. What if our parks, schools, neighborhoods and planet, were beautifully cared for and pleasant to be in — it is not a question of money — it is a question of a healthy will to make them so. When public officials and others ignore community laws and standards established after public hearings by elected representatives for the best interests of the public — there is no law or standards, there is no order, there is no justice, and any professed civil authority is hypocritical, corrupted and worthless to the public they were hired to serve. The best places to live, work and visit are those places that uphold high standards of livability in the face of pressure to allow the lowest common denominator.
